Groupon Users May be Overtaxed

If you're a company that's ever run a Groupon, you might have been responsible for charging your customers too much in sales tax.

A story from NBC affiliate WKYC in Ohio points out that after, say, a $35 bill is knocked down to $15 by using a Groupon, the sales tax remains unchanged -- which has caught the attention of state taxation departments across the country.

The group-buying site has responded by referring back to its terms of sale: "The Merchant, not Groupon, is the seller of the Voucher and the goods and services and is solely responsible for redeeming any voucher you purchase."

In other words? The taxman might come knocking on your door for potentially overcharging customers.
